As a child, did you have a beloved item like a blanket, toy, or book that you just couldn't bear to part with? Perhaps you found solace in hiding under a blanket when things frightened you and you found comfort and security in the simple act of covering your head. In that moment, you felt shielded from the world and you knew that nothing could harm you.
Imagine a different scenario - a time when your parents discovered you peacefully sleeping and lovingly draped a cozy blanket over you to shield you from the chill of the night. That soft covering not only kept you warm but also provided a comforting sense of security, enveloping you in a cocoon of love and care.
A few days ago, in a vision, I witnessed the Lord lying gently beside me. As He moved he rose and draped a soft, glowing blanket over me. Through the translucent fabric, I could make out His outline and see His hands raised in the air, and he began hovering over me from head to toe. As He began this motion, I sensed His divine presence purging me of impurities, fear, strongholds, sins, healing, and all manner of negativity. Every heartache and pain seemed to dissipate under His touch. The bulk of burdens, amongst other things began to lift and my body felt so light. It was such a comfort for me that I am safe in Him.
I have found that a blanket often symbolizes comfort, protection, and provision. In this case, it represents God’s covering and care over us, reminding us of His faithfulness. Just as a blanket wraps around us, shielding us from the cold and fear, God’s love envelops us shielding us from those same things and harm. We are shielded in comfort, security, provision, harm, restoration, and rest.
“He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings, you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.” Psalm 91:4
God loves every one of His children and just like a parent or guardian displays love and protection for their child, God abounds even more than that in our lives, because He has the resources, wisdom, knowledge, and power to do more than we can ask, think or imagine. Even when you don’t feel it, you have the eternal Comforter giving you His wrap-around presence at every moment. We are covered by the security blanket of Christ wherever we go.
“Because you are close to me and always available, my confidence will never be shaken, for I experience your wrap-around presence every moment.” Psalm 16:8
